thanks. I am currently writing a book that I want to really succeed. I am
in the rough draft and definitely needed to know this ahead of time. I’ll
do my best!

Your speaking is kind of confusing as I am trying to study the pictures
shown. Is there a website I can go to, to study the maps and text?

Sweet! Thanks.

Procrastinating Writer says:

I’ve been published on Amazon since August, it’s a great ride with a great
forum on there, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Claudia Jackson says:

Wow! I’m impressed! You have a good eye for CMYK vs. RGB. You are right and
I have now added that to my “fix it” list. Also, Amazon used to call it
“DTP” (for digital text publishing), but has since updated their name to
“keep us on our toes.” DTP is now called KDP (Kindle Desktop Publishing)
but it is the same website and service. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial.
I hope it was helpful. Best, Claudia (aka NovelHelp)

Eddie Sherriff says:

can you use the free isbn number from smashwords, when you upload your book
to amazon?

Eddie Sherriff says:

@aflourish did you get the free isbn from smashwords, or did you buy the
isbn elsewhere?

AZstarwatcher says:

Lulu gives you a paperback sold on their website but also any bookstore
including B and N can purchase and carry it in their stores. You’re right,
completely edit and spellcheck and make lots of copies.

I have a tut on creating a CreateSpace cover in Gimp. I also share other

@NovelHelp Hi, Thanks this is very helpful. I was just wondering, wouldn’t
it make sense in your diagram if the final two arrows from the cover
feeding smashwords and DTP came from RGB colour space as these are e-books
which will be read on a minotor? Only the arrow feeding lightening source
should come from CMYK?

Joseph Farley says:

Great video! Thank you so much.

So… say I published my book on SmashWords. So all I would have to do to
publish it on Amazon is take the file, reformat, and then send it to DTP?

MONIQ MOON says:

n do I have to register my novel novel first? or they help me out with that?

Claudia Jackson says:

@EmilyHillWriter Thanks for your comment! You are so right. We work
diligently with our authors, encouraging them to make their work the best
it can be. To do that, they need to do serious content editing,
copyediting, and make as many proof-reading passes as they possibly can. We
have personally seen many great new titles come across our desk proving to
us over and over again that self-publishing is the present and future home
of great writers everywhere. We hope this video helps.

ღ Visual Dream ღ says:

Thanks! I REALLY want to publish a book about my 2 dogs,
Chato(Rafeal,Rambul) and Kyrra. But I know no one’s gonna want to publish
it, so why not publish it myself? Whenever I ask someone if they like it,
they’ll answer, “Of course not! Which publisher published this book?!”

Shyla Stylez says:

is doing ebooks better then getting your book in an actual book form?

vmark44 says:

Thank you to Smashwords for this non-fiction being online in the shortest
possible time and having its first sale within a month… Go to Smashwords
and look for nonfiction, history, Oscar’sStory and get a copy, for a good
read. Cheers.

thanks 4 quick response

Claudia Jackson says:

Sorry, it happens sometimes. The site should be up now.

Claudia Jackson says:

That’s an interesting question. One type of book isn’t necessarily better
than the other, but it is much cheaper to create and upload an eBook than a
paperback. Although our authors are experiencing more eBook sales, many
still create both the eBook and paperback in order to reach the largest
audience possible.

Claudia Jackson says:

Thanks for the shout out! Its nice to hear from folks.

Claudia Jackson says:

You are correct! Or, you can even let Smashwords distribute to Amazon for
you.

IAmEverythang says:

Lots of helpful info for us new writers, however there’s so many people and
places explaining the in’s and out’s of publishing. What & Who is the
appropriate way to go?? That’s a individual question with of course
individual answers.

Zahide Hernandez says:

I recommend you remove the music to hear your voice. It is impossible to
capture anything.

Jason Soderston says:

So, I will be starting my autobiography here shortly, what would be my
first step?

Claudia Jackson says:

An app for a children’s book can be an expensive way to publish. It depends
on how sophisticated you want your book to perform. If you have an
illustrated book (few words on pictures) a “Fixed-Layout EPUB” for the iPad
is what I would recommend. If you have more words than pictures. a Regular
EPUB would work just fine, or you can do both. A lot has changed since this
video was made. Either way, an EPUB file or KF8 file (Amazon) would work
well. Thanks for your question and Happy New Year!

Claudia Jackson says:

Copied from @EmilyHillWriter’s video page (I think I removed it by accident
when I replied. Brilliant presentation! This presentation should be BUZZING
with kudos…Writers! Please listen when NovelHelp advises ‘FINISH’ the
manuscript…no typos, no bad grammar, no sloppy formatting. Know your
character arcs and your plot lines – work with a book doctor, or editor.
The current ‘rush to publication’ lack of oversight is helping to sully
independent publishing. ”
